Major Fish-Kill in Florida

Scary and sad...

Low oxygen levels in the water wipe out a lot of fish in Florida.

Tarpon-Permit-Snook-The south Florida Slam-Paul Gozzo

I went out for a Sunday afternoon trip with some old pals and we managed to catch a bunch of tarpon and some snook. No Permit this year, although last year around Thanksgiving we did manage to get the south Florida Slam a few times.

For me it is a little hard to tell the difference between a permit and a jack when they are in the water, especially in the inlet. I could just assume they are all jacks since some of the jack schools a re gigantic and they seem to always be there. But, occasionally some permit schools slide in and that is an entirely different fish.

Snook Fishing

Snook fishing in south Florida is spectacular!

If you are visiting the area and like to fish, I highly recommend getting a guide and going snook fishing. Or, if you have some of your own tackle, go for it on your own. There are a lot of accessible places to target snook especially in the summer.

Although to keep one, it must fit in slot, and they are delicious, just catching and releasing them is a thrill and something all lifetime anglers should put on their "list."
